Iwo Jima Bagged Set

The Marines
BMC introduced the #40026 playset in 2000. It consists of 12 U.S. Marine poses and six U.S. Marine poses for the flag raising. It also includes two sets of seven Japanese poses. These 1/32 scale soldiers are cast from tooling adapted from the King & Country Sands of Iwo Jima molds that were retired many years ago. The Marines are cast in pale green, while the Japanese soldiers are cast in rust-orange. The plastic is both lightweight and rigid. The bases are hollow and have the number of the pose embossed underneath (which actually represents their position in the mold). These faithful WWII poses are highly detailed and characteristics are uniform throughout the group. They are also included in the #40013 Iwo Jima Playset. Given the price tag of around 12 bucks for the set, these toy soldiers are an excellent bang for the buck and just way too cool to pass up.

On February 23rd, 1945, Ira Hayes, Franklin Sousley, Michael Strank, Harold H. Schultz, Rene Gagnon, and Harlon Block raised the second flag on Mt. Suribachi. It replaced a smaller flag raised earlier that day by Hank Hansen, Boots Thomas, John Bradley, Phil Ward, Jim Michaels and Chuck Lindberg. The iconic photograph was taken by Joe Rosenthal.

On June 23rd, 2016, the Marine Corps publicly acknowledged that a previously unidentified Marine named Harold H. Schultz was one of the six men pictured in what is arguably the best-known image of the last century: Joe Rosenthal’s Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph of the 1945 flag-raising on Iwo Jima.
